My name is Donald Moody. Now retired, I practised as an osteopath and natural therapist for twenty-four years and during that time I was presented with patients with joint pain on a daily basis, and, at times, suffered from it myself.
CAUSES OF JOINT PAINS.
Joint pains are one of the banes of our lives and often commence for no apparent reason. For example most knee pains start at the ankle,
(song; ‘the ankle bone connected to the knee bone’, etc) and comes from ankle displacement, due often to poor walking technique. The knee is thrown out of balance to compensate for this displacement resulting in knee pain. This can also affect hip joints.
Joint pains in the arms are often related to spinal misalignments, which come from poor posture, creating a body imbalance.
Of course there are other perfectly legitimate reasons for joint pains; arthritis, trauma, sprains and strains, and so on. But what if they are slow to clear or don’t clear at all? Then the reason is probably down to body imbalance, and you will find that you have an apparent leg length difference. This is ‘long leg syndrome’, and this also causes joint pains to the neck and spine.
TREATMENT OF JOINT PAINS.
The body is the healer and it needs all the help you can give it. Certainly things like, anti inflammatorys, pills and lotions, massage and exercise will help, but if the underlying structure is at fault then these, are at best relieving the pain or swelling, not resolving the problem. In other words you are just treating the symptom not the cause.
What is needed is restoration of the full range of movement to the joints, revitalising of the nerve supply to the joint pains, and balance restored to the structural elements of the body. Couple this with rest and time to heal, if necessary, add common sense exercise once healed, and you have a recipe for success.
